FAB Biz Blast – Apr 2023

TIME TO TIDY UP!

Make sure your spring cleaning goals include updating and cleaning up your social media this season! We’ve compiled a few quick tips for you to optimize your feeds for your followers, customers, and clients:

  • Claim your business username on all social media even if you might not use it.
  • In your bio and “about us” sections, include basic details so your customers don’t have to search for them:
    • Address
    • Days and Hours of Operation
    • Website
    • Brand Mission / Brand’s personality / Your latest products or offers
  • Try to include a call to action button or link. Give it upfront placement so customers can quickly make reservations, schedule an appointment, send a message, etc.
  • Are you aware of the best times to post? Experts say to follow these guidelines:
    • Facebook: Thu-Sun, 9am, 1pm, and 3pm
    • Twitter: Wed, 12pm, 3pm, 5-6pm
    • Instagram: Mon and Thu, 2am, 8-9am, 5pm
  • Mix up the content; use the 5-3-2 rule:
    • 50% curated posts (news articles, industry news, shared posts)
    • 30% original posts
    • 20% humanizing brand; show behind-the-scenes of your business

And if you need help with getting started with social media or exploring a new social networking site, contact FAB; we can get you the resources you need!

TRASH RULES RESET TO COMBAT RATS

DSNY set-out times for trash are changing on Saturday, April 1 to help keep our streets clean! There are specific options for businesses that use containers for waste, and those that use bags.

There will be a one-month grace period – businesses and residents will receive written warnings until May 1, 2023.

Written warnings will be tracked, and warning recipients will be among the first places inspected for compliance in May.

Click here for more details on commercial waste set-out times.

NO MORE
ALPHABET SOUP!

Mystery orange cones and street construction. New regulations, rules, and fines. Programs to assist consumers and businesses. Learn about new projects and programs that will affect our neighborhood at this “town hall” -style event featuring representatives from NYC Sanitation, NYC Department of Buildings (DOB), ConEdison, and NationalGrid. A Q & A session will follow, and include treats from nearby FAB bakery favorite, The Good Batch!

RSVP here for this event, Tue., April 11 at 7:00 pm inside Greenlight Bookstore (686 Fulton).

BE A BOARD MEMBER

Help shape the future of the FAB Fulton business improvement district and contribute to brainstorming, planning, and more! You’re already a BID member; take it a step further and be a BOARD MEMBER. It’s a commitment of about 4 hour-long board meetings a year, plus the opportunity to join committees that will have 2-3 hour-long meetings over the course of a year. Read over the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) here, and contact us with any questions!

MAKING THE GRADE

Are you getting straight As, like Slutty Vegan recently did? (Congrats to the SV crew!) Since 2010, New York City has required restaurants to post letter grades that correspond to scores received from NYC Health sanitary inspections. If you don’t think these large letter grades are important to your customers, put a C in the window and see what happens to your traffic! Get more info here about the score and grade system, and practicing food safety.

CELEBRATE SPRING!

Earth Day is coming, and we’re ready to celebrate all things green and spring on April 22! The event marks the official opening of the new Gates Avenue Plaza (Gates and Vanderbilt Avenues) with a Saturday soireé packed with music, food, and fun! Bring your families out to enjoy fantastic hands-on activities and interactions with local organizations like Brooklyn Public Library, Recycle A Bicycle, The Hort, and others, including a DSNY Touch-A-Truck! Enjoy yummy treats from local bizs, too — all FREE and in celebration of a new public plaza space. Come spend the day with us, 11a – 4p; RSVP now!
