NEW YEAR, NEW LAWS IN NEW YORK FOR 2020
With the start of the new year, many new laws are on the books and effective in New York State, some very important to small businesses, their employees and customers.
Effective January 1, the Paid Family Leave wage replacement benefit is increasing for employees.
Starting March 15, with some exceptions, plastic bags will no longer be available anywhere that is required to pay New York state taxes.
And beginning August 12, New Yorkers will have up to three years to file sexual harassment complaints.
Another change, while not a law, is a welcome benefit for those who qualify: starting January 27, all eligible city residents can sign up for Fair Fares and get half-price subway and bus fares. Get more details at nyc.gov/fairfares.
