FAB Neighborhood News – July 2025

FAB HAPPENINGS

It’s su-su-summer — looking for FAB things to do? We got you! Here’s a quick roundup of cool happenings at FAB businesses that you should know about and put on your calendar:

  • Where’s Waldo kicks off July 1; this is Greenlight Bookstore‘s annual month-long, fun-filled scavenger hunt to find Waldo in participating local businesses. Kids and families can search for Waldo and come back to Greenlight for prizes throughout the month. And Greenlight hosts a Waldo Finale Party with more games and prizes on August 3! Stop by Greenlight throughout July for a stamp card with a list of participating businesses and scavenger hunt rules, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Waldo!
  • If you like your fun hot, check out Hot Glass Hangouts at Urban Glass! It’s a free monthly demo series where you can see the skills and teamwork that go into shaping molten glass, meet friendly local artists, and shop a pop-up Studio Sale featuring beautiful glassware. Soft drinks and snacks are on the house. Upcoming dates are July 25 and August 8; learn more here.
  • Every summer, house heads from all over converge upon Fort Greene Park for Soul Summit, and this year will be no different. All the vibes hit Sunday, July 13, and Mo’s Bar will host an After Party you don’t wanna miss!
  • Just want to sit for a spell? Take in the serenity of MoCADA‘s public Ubuntu Sculpture Garden, open and available to visitors Thursday through Saturday, 12 – 7 pm, and Sunday, 12 – 4 pm (except on 4th of July and Labor Day holiday weekends).
  • Outdoor movies are a whole vibe, and they are so much better with a frozen drink and delicious food! Habana Outpost has both this summer (and into the fall); check out their Movie Night schedule above, pick out your favorite flicks, and save those Sunday dates!

SAFETY AMBASSADORS ON FAB FULTON

FAB Fulton is proud to introduce our new Safety Ambassador Team, now on the ground and ready to serve our district. Mansa and Emile are trained professionals here to support a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone, whether you’re shopping, dining, commuting, or just passing through. Say hello when you see them in their bright FAB-branded vests, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need assistance or directions!

NEW COMPLETION DATE FOR CUYLER GORE

Work at Cuyler Gore Park in Fort Greene is steadily progressing: in the past few weeks, walkways and trails have been completed. Water lines and upgraded sprinklers have been installed as well, and the kids’ play area is taking shape. Plus, no trees were lost! The park’s renovation has been on the table for years, and we’re finally seeing it come to fruition. At this writing, construction is 56% complete, and the projected completion date is now November 2025. We can hardly wait to see the finished space! Follow the progress on the NYC Parks tracker, here.

FAB PUBLIC MEETING – WEDNESDAY, JULY 9

Join us for an important public meeting to learn more about a proposed change to the assessment formula used for the FAB Fulton Business Improvement District. This online meeting is open to all stakeholders — including merchants, commercial and residential property owners, tenants, and residents — who are interested in understanding how the proposed formula may affect annual BID assessments. RSVP here; Zoom information will be sent out before the meeting.

NETS KIDS AUDITIONS THIS AUGUST!

The Brooklyn Nets are looking for the next generation of talent to join the coolest kids’ dance team in the NBA — and your kid could be part of the lineup!

The team will hold open auditions for the 2025-26 NBA season on Sunday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s University-New York in Clinton Hill.

The Brooklyn Paper reports that children ages 6 to 13 with at least two years of dance training are eligible to audition. A parent or legal guardian must be present to sign a waiver. Registration begins at 10 am, and all dancers must arrive by 10:30 am. Finalists may be asked to stay and continue auditioning until 4:30 pm.

To be considered for the team, dancers must be able to learn and perform choreography. Those selected must be available for weekly rehearsals in Brooklyn and weekend home games at Barclays Center. Go for it!

PEDESTRIAN RAMP RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT

The NYC Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC), in partnership with the NYC Department of Transportation (NYCDOT), has begun design work to upgrade certain pedestrian ramps in our district to improve access on and off streets and sidewalks. Once constructed, the improved pedestrian ramps will be ADA compliant and improve safety for everyone. In our area, the four corners at Lafayette Ave and Ashland Pl in Fort Greene are slated for redesign. The design project is scheduled to be completed this fall, and construction is targeted to begin in the summer of 2026. Learn more here.

SAVE THE DATE: NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

This year’s National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Underwood Park (Lafayette Avenue between Waverly and Washington Avenues), hosted by NYPD 88th Precinct. The mission is to bring together the Fort Greene and Clinton Hill communities for a day of unity, engagement, and crime prevention awareness.

National Night Out is a nationwide initiative that fosters meaningful relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. It promotes neighborhood camaraderie and police-community partnerships to encourage safer, more connected neighborhoods.

Come for the food, stay for the music, games, and fun!
