LET SUMMER COOK

OUTSIDE IN THE JULY HEAT? WE CAN DO THIS!
Working with long-time programming partner Street Lab, we’re bringing a new event to the summer FAB Fulton calendar! OASIS: Clinton Hill Chill will be Tuesday, July 21, at Jitu Weusi Plaza, from 2 – 5 pm.
OASIS is a pop-up, open-air cooling station. In high heat, New Yorkers are often forced to retreat to indoor, air-conditioned spaces, which can be isolating as well as energy-intensive. OASIS offers an alternative: a communal, outdoor gathering space that relies on water, plants, and shade to cool people, right in the heart of neighborhoods. The pop-up features a custom-designed misting river and misting arches that encourage people to gather and cool off together, all without power.
Extending a special invite to our elder neighbors, we’re going to add a little DJ music and some fun, classic table games like UNO, dominoes, checkers, and chess. All in a shaded, misted oasis in the plaza! Mark your calendars and plan to chill with us!
NYC PARKS OUTDOOR POOLS NOW OPEN!
Outdoor public swimming pools are now open! Public outdoor pools are open to everyone at no cost.
Before you get in the water, review the rules for important information about what you must bring with you and what is not allowed, and remember that swimming is allowed at the lifeguard’s discretion. Find details here.
And remember, in the FAB Fulton area, we may not have pools, but you can enjoy the refreshing sprinklers at Cuyler Gore Park (Fulton + Greene) and Crispus Attucks Playground (Fulton + Classon)! Can’t get to a pool? You can request a spray cap from the FDNY to open hydrants legally! And there are other ways to stay cool; go here to find a cooling center near you.
FREE SUMMER MEALS ARE BACK

WALDO RETURNS TO BROOKLYN, BE ON THE LOOKOUT!
Waldo, the iconic children’s book character, has been roaming the globe (and beyond) for three decades. And just where is Waldo after all this time? Well, this summer he’s right here in Fort Greene / Clinton Hill!
During the month of July, Greenlight Bookstore hosts “Where’s Waldo in Fort Greene,” an exciting month-long scavenger hunt to find Waldo in participating local businesses. Kids and families can search for Waldo and come back to Greenlight for prizes throughout the month. And Greenlight will host a Waldo Finale Party with more games and prizes on August 2nd!
Stop by Greenlight throughout July for a stamp card with a list of participating businesses and scavenger hunt rules, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Waldo! More details here.

FAB ASSESSMENT CHANGE INFO FOR RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY OWNERS
After a year of evaluation and consideration, the BID proposed an update to its assessment formula to better reflect the district’s evolving landscape and ensure a more equitable distribution of costs among property owners. As the mix of uses, property values, and business types within the district has changed over time, the revised formula is designed to align assessments more closely with current conditions. This update will help ensure that all stakeholders contribute fairly while supporting the BID’s ability to deliver consistent services and improvements across the district.
On April 30, 2026, City Council voted to make the change to the BID’s assessment formula during a public hearing. You can access the information regarding the new assessment methodology here.
